ABD.

Um, yeah. Really. That's me, as of yesterday!

A collection of gifts, supportive and celebratory. The liquor and Trader Joe's chocolate covered peanuts are from my sister's care package. She's been through law school, so she knows what will best soothe a stressed out student! The tiara, from my friend Virginia, who crowned me as soon as I stepped off the elevator, post-exam. The bag from East Side Cafe from Brenda, with an intoxicating lavender soap and a candle. And the flowers from my sweet Cristina; lilies are my favorite!

What I can't show you here are the phone calls, text messages, and home-cooked food from people I love, without whom I couldn't have gotten through this. Thank you!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to knit and watch Buffy on DVD all afternoon.

Congratulations! So glad to hear you're ABD. You've totally earned the knitting/Buffy-a-thon.

Congratulations, Olga! You did it!
You are now entering the most humane, wonderful part of graduate school- you have documents that confirm that the Uni knows that you are just as smart and capable and creative as we have always known that you were. From now, until about a month before you defend the diss, you actually get to enjoy it. Give yourself some time to recover, and then get on with the fun part of your dissertation. (Also, the amount of time I was advised to take off, post exam? AN ENTIRE QUARTER. How much time did I actually take off? Well, almost a year, but those were weird circumstances.)

ps. I wonder what it is about Buffy that makes her standard post-academic trauma fare. Since I've defended I've watched all seven seasons, twice, and I am thinking about following the eighth-season in the form of a comic book.

Congrats on the ABD status. I'm looking to acquire that status for myself sometime around September or so. Until then, I can only dream of a stress-free life and wish I were you ABD people.

Congratulations! What a huge accomplishment! More buffy fans should be working on their doctorates.
